‘ An Introduction to our Major Projects

œPromoting International Cooperation and Cultural Exchange
  • Koryu Salon (cultural exchange salon), various events are planned and hosted to introduce either Japanese culture or other cultures from around the world
  • Japanese language speech contest
  • In August, the CCIA organizes a group of Japanese and foreign citizens to dance at the Chiba Oyakosandai summer festival
  • Language lessons are offered to Japanese language volunteers (beginner & intermediate English, beginner Chinese, beginner Korean, and children's English classes)
  • Offer seminars that focus on internationalization
  • Youth exchange programs with sister cities are planned each year. Students come and go on exchange to North Vancouver (Canada), Houston (USA), and Montreux (Switzerland)
  • Tour of Montreux with citizens of Chiba City
  • The planning and presentation of shows by the Tianjin performance troop

œSupporting individuals and groups involved in international exchange
  • CCIA Volunteer registration and matching (ie. matching Japanese language teachers with students)
  • Volunteer training
  • Offer classes to help volunteers with teaching Japanese
  • Coordinate the Chiba City International Fureai Festival
  • Support other groups (ie. NGOs, NPOs) involved in international exchange
  • Promotion of a Japanese language teacher network
œSupporting foreign residents
  • Free Japanese language lessons for Chiba City residents (certain conditions apply)
  • Publication of a quarterly newsletter, The New Gateway
  • A monthly translated edition of local news, Chiba City E‚Ώ‚Ξ
  • Information service@in 6 languages, over the counter or by phone
  • Free legal consultation for foreigners
  • Provide foreign exchange students with recycled bicycles
  • Training sessions for international volunteers
  • Provide help with school books for foreign exchange students
œCollecting and Distributing of Information Related to International Exchange
  • Publication of Japanese newsletter, Fureai, highlighting the CCIA's activities
  • Notice board for posting and exchanging information
  • Magazine corner (including Time, Newsweek, etc.)
œCarrying out other international relations projects requested by Chiba City
  • The CCIA manages the Chiba City International Communication Plaza
